Karrie Webb Biography
Karrie Webb's biography is far from being finished. Despite her young age, however, Webb has accomplished many things in the golfing community.
Webb was born in 1974 in Queensland. She began playing golf when she was only eight years old. She played on the Australian Amateur team from 1992 to 1994. In 1994, she was named the Australian Strokeplay champion. She became a professional golfer in 1994. In 1995, she won the Weetabix Women's British Open. She was the youngest person to accomplish this feat. She was also named as European Rookie of the Year. She became eligible for the LPGA tour after finishing second at the Final Qualifying Tournament. What is especially remarkable is that she was playing with a broken wrist.
She continued to be successful throughout the late nineties. She was the first LPGA player to earn a million dollars in one season. She was named LPGA rookie of the year in 1996, and got the ESPY for Best Female Golfer in 1997. In 1999, she won her biggest championship yet, the du Maurier Classic. She was also named as LPGA Tour Player of the Year.
In 2000, she won the 2nd consecutive Rolex Player of the Year title. Also during 2000, she was recognized as one of the top fifty LPGA players and teachers. She was named Queensland Sportswoman of the year three years in a row. She also ran with the Olympic torch for the 2000 Olympic Games which took place in Sydney. She continued her winning streak by winning the US Women's Open in 2001. She was the only player to finish under par. By 2002, she has become the fastest player to ever win eight million dollars over the span of their career. She followed that up by becoming the fastest player to reach nine million dollars by 2003.
In 2004, Webb won the thirtieth title in her career. She was only 30 years old. During this year, she also reached ten million dollars in career earnings. She was inducted in the World Golf Hall of Fame in November of 2005. She is only the second international player to receive this honor in LPGA history. In 2006, Webb earned more than two million dollars, making her the third person to ever earn that much money in a single season.
She was ranked number one in rounds under par. That year she won five tournaments including the Kraft Nabisco Championship. Overall, she has won thirty five LPGA tour championships. Webb also won two LPGA championships in 2007, and she won the MFS Australian Open in 2008. Webb has said that her parents were very influential to her career. During her time away from golf, she enjoys fishing, reading and basketball.
